We understand that a healthy smile does not look the same to everyone, nor may it look the same throughout one’s life- and that’s ok.
We are here to help create and maintain your own unique version of a healthy smile. That may include looking after your gums, and hygiene, reviewing diet and medications, improving your understanding of dental health, considering lip health and other soft tissues which frame your smile, or perhaps tooth alignment and whitening.
It may even require replacing a missing tooth or using porcelain to protect teeth or improve appearance. whatever dental health means to you, we are here to help.
Gilbert Street Dental welcomes new and returning patients. As a family practice which has now been running for over 40 years and by 3 generations of dentist we understand the importance of feeling comfortable in the dental setting. we strive each day to do our best by our patients and very much hope to see you soon.

MEET THE TEAM
DR PENNY BURBIDGE
PRINCIPLE DENTIST
Dr Penny Burbidge has worked in a variety of dental settings. Straight after graduating from Adelaide University in 2006 she returned to the Dental Hospital and worked at their emergency/pain relief clinic. At this time she also worked at our former second practice on Sturt Street.
She worked overseas for 2 years in the Cayman Islands, where she got to meet and treat a diverse range of people and cultures. After returning to Australia in 2008 she re-joined Gilbert St Dental at their current premises.
As a third-generation dentist, and after more than 17 years of practice, Penny has now taken over the running of Gilbert St Dental. Penny continues to see some of her Grandfather’s patients, along with her Father’s patients and many of their offspring. Penny enjoys all aspects of general dentistry and is also trained in Laser dentistry, Invisalign and muscle relaxants. Managing patients with bruxism, and restoring highly worn teeth are especially rewarding.
Outside of work, Penny loves to be out in nature and spend time with her husband, 2 daughters, a dog and of course her friends. Once upon a time Penny loved scuba diving, and looks forward to the day she can do this with her kids!
DR LIZZIE BHANDERI
SENIOR DENTIST
We have been delighted to have Dr Lizzie join us over the last year. Lizzie has incredible health knowledge, After more than 10 years of practice as an ED nurse at St Mary’s Hospital, London, Lizzie retrained as a dentist at the prestigious King’s College, London. Lizzie is passionate about putting patients at ease in the dental environment and is interested in all aspects of general dentistry.
Lizzie and her family moved permanently to Australia in 2017, and since being here the family has almost doubled! When not at work they adore spending time at the beach, and their involvement in various sporting clubs.
DR MARK GALAZ
SENIOR DENTIST
With over 40 years clinical experience, it is fair to say mark is a fountain of knowledge on all things dental. Mark has recently handed over the reigns to his daughter (Penny) after running his own private practice since graduating back in 1979. As well as this Mark enjoyed many years tutoring at the Adelaide Dental Hospital and was awarded for his work on the homeless scheme after many years.
Mark continues to see many of his original patients and enjoys all aspects of dentistry. When not at work, Mark loves a DIY job at home, as well as traveling and spending time with his grandkids. He especially loves traveling to see his newest grandson in Austria!
TRACEY HERMAN
HYGIENIST
Tracey has over 14 years experience as a dental hygienist and she has been working in the dental industry for over 20 years, starting as a trainee dental assistant and going on to graduate as a dental hygienist in 2008.
Tracey has volunteered on the Dental Hygienists Association of Australia committee on both a state and national level, with roles varying from SA President to committee member for the national Symposium committee. As a hygienist Tracey has a strong focus on Preventive dental care and prides herself on being a caring and gentle clinician, who enjoys working with patients of all ages.
When she is not at work Tracey loves travel and to experience different cultures. She is a passionate animal lover and cherishes time with her young nephews.
NIKKI NEMET
HYGIENIST
Nikki has been a delightful, bright and bubbly addition to our team. Enthusiastic not only about hygiene, Nikki developed a diverse working scope over the last 12 years and can expertly deliver all hygiene services including our biofilm testing along with orthodontic support and zoom whitening.
Nikki loves travel and is a keen foodie. She’s spent time living and working in North America and loves to cook and throw a dinner party.
ERIN HOLTON
PRACTICE MANAGER
Erin brings with her a wealth of experience and enthusiasm from a dental career spanning 20 years. Erin has worked for numerous leading specialist practices across Adelaide in the fields of endodontics, orthodontics and implantology along with large scale general dental practices.
We love Erin because she cares about our staff and our patients. Making sure that our team are working happily and effectively helps to ensure a happy patient experience.
Outside of work (and at work) Erin is one busy lady! She and her husband have 2 delightful young children and she is an outstanding weekend netball umpire.
